Description

Sugar Plums are a traditional holiday confection made from dried fruits, nuts, and warm spices, rolled into bite-sized balls and coated in sugar. Contrary to popular belief, they contain no actual plums but are full of old-world charm and natural sweetness — perfect for festive snacking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup almonds (or walnuts), finely chopped or pulsed in a food processor

  • 1 cup dried figs, chopped

  • 1 cup dried apricots or dates, chopped

  • 1 cup raisins

  • 2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup)

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup coarse sugar or sanding sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Prep Ingredients: Finely chop all dried fruits and nuts (or pulse in a food processor for a finer texture).

  2. Mix: In a large bowl, combine dried fruits, nuts, honey, and spices. Mix until sticky and well combined.

  3. Form Balls: Using your hands, shape mixture into small 1-inch balls.

  4. Coat: Roll each ball in coarse sugar to coat evenly.

  5. Chill (Optional): For firmer texture, refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving.

  6. Serve: Store in an airtight container. Keeps for up to 2 weeks

Notes

  • Customize by using your favorite dried fruits or nuts.

  • For a vegan version, use maple syrup instead of honey.

  • Can be made ahead — flavor deepens over time.

  • Great as edible gifts or holiday party snacks!
