Description

Crispy pretzel-crusted chicken topped with a creamy, tangy mustard-cheddar sauce. Comfort food with a gourmet twist, perfect for family dinners or entertaining.

For the Chicken:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

  • 2 cups crushed pretzels

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 large eggs, beaten

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • Salt & pepper

For the Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2 tbsp flour

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard

  • 1 tbsp whole-grain mustard

  • Pinch of cayenne (optional)

Optional Garnish & Sides:

  • Fresh parsley, lemon wedges, mashed potatoes, roasted veggies, or salad


Instructions

  • Pound chicken to ½-inch thickness, season with spices.

  • Dredge in flour → egg wash → pretzel crumbs.

  • Bake at 400°F for 20–25 minutes (or pan-fry 4–5 min/side).

  • For sauce: make roux with butter + flour, whisk in milk, melt cheese, stir in mustards.

 

  • Serve chicken topped with sauce, garnish, and sides.

Notes

  • Bake on a wire rack for extra crispiness.

  • Use gluten-free pretzels for a GF version.

 

  • Thin sauce with milk if too thick; add more cheese if too tangy.
