Description

A creamy and refreshing orange-flavored ice cream made with real juice and zest. This homemade treat delivers a smooth texture and vibrant citrus taste—perfect for summer days or nostalgic dessert cravings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • 2 tbsp orange zest
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 egg yolks (optional, for custard base)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: 1 tbsp vodka or Cointreau (improves scoopability)

Instructions

  1. Heat milk and cream in a saucepan until steaming.
  2. Whisk egg yolks with sugar, temper with warm milk mixture.
  3. Cook until thickened (if using custard method).
  4. Stir in orange juice, zest, vanilla, and salt. Chill thoroughly.
  5. Churn in an ice cream maker or freeze in a pan, stirring occasionally.
  6. Freeze until firm (about 6–8 hours).

Notes

  • For no-cook version, skip egg yolks and blend all ingredients directly.

  • Use sweet oranges like navel or Valencia for best flavor.

  • Add candied peel or cookie crumbles for texture.

  • Can be made dairy-free with coconut milk.
