Description

A flaky, buttery Danish-inspired pastry filled with spiced apples and drizzled with a sweet vanilla glaze. Perfect for cozy mornings or holiday gatherings.

For the Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

  • ½ cup sour cream

For the Apple Filling:

  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

For the Vanilla Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2 tablespoons milk (or more for desired consistency)

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

  • Make the Dough:
    In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly. Stir in sour cream. Form into a ball, wrap, and chill for 1 hour.

  • Prepare the Filling:
    Combine diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Set aside.

  • Assemble the Kringle:
    Roll dough into a rectangle (about 10×14″). Place apple filling down the center. Fold sides over, pinch to seal. Shape into an oval if desired.

  • Bake:
    Place on a baking sheet. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.

 

  • Make the Glaze:
    Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Drizzle over cooled kringle.

Notes

  • You can use puff pastry as a shortcut.

  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts to the filling for extra crunch.

 

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
